“I Made You A Mixtape!”

This coming Tuesday sees Channel 4 broadcast the first episode of THIS IS ENGLAND ’86 and I’m very excited, not just because I’m a huge fan of Shane Meadows, but because I remember that year so clearly… It was the year of Halleys Comet, Short Circuit, Ferris Bueller, The World Cup, Transformers, Mike Tyson and one of my all time favourite films ‘The Money Pit’

1986…I’m 9 years old and my world revolves around Michael Jackson, roller skating, Cherry Cola, Atari, making up dance routines, swapping Panini stickers, reading Smash Hits….and taping the charts. We’ve all done it, precise timing of the pause button was crucial, and when we’d finished? …we made mix tapes on hi-speed dubbing!

I hope you enjoyed my Folksy Friday mix tape!

I love this selection! Funny how iconic a tape looks now – I used to record the top 40, hovering ready to cut off the voices – always sounded terrible.

I love mix tapes and I still have all the ones I made when I was younger, I might get them out to have a listen too and see what I had recorded!

Lovely, memories of using pens to tighten the tapes, and my first car eating one of my fave Queen tapes, leaving me with brown ribbon everywhere! LOL!

    Lovely choices.

Woohoo! I love this! I made thousands of mix tapes, mostly taped off the radio and pressing record a fraction too early so you got the dj speaking by mistake!

Well done Kellie, thanks for the memories!

my sister used to tape the audio from episodes of moonlighting, no pictures mind just the audio, and listen to them over and over cos we didnt have a video recorder yet. nuts.

What a great selection. Thank you Kellie. Mix tapes bring back lots of good memories for me. You could always tell if a boy fancied you if they made you one!

yes Natalie!! winding the tape back in with a biro and trying to cover the break with a tiny bit of tape….or breaking the wee plastic squares on the top of ‘originals’ so you could tape over them :D glad this has evoked so many memories for you all…..now go listen to NOW (thats what i call music) 6
