Hands up who loves Tilly Walnes?
We do, we do!
We first fell in love with her as a contestant on the Great British Sewing Bee, then discovered her blog Tilly and the Buttons and fell a little bit deeper, and she finally sealed her place in our hearts at the Folksy Summer School last year, where she was one of our speakers and every bit as fabulous as we imagined! You can watch her Summer School talk on blogging here >>
Now the multi-talented Tilly has turned her hand to book-writing, and what a book it is. Love at First Stitch teaches you how to sew made-to-measure clothes by actually doing, so you can get making straight away. Each chapter is centred around a garment project and teaches you different techniques, from sewing basics like threading your machine to trickier skills like French seams and collars, until you are armed with enough knowledge to tackle an entire lined Lilou dress.
The book is sprinkled with Tilly’s tips on how to choose fabric, sew without patterns, add your own style and even how to behave in fabric shops. Plus, it comes with full-scale patterns for the Margot pyjama bottoms, Delphine skirt, Megan dress, Mimi blouse, and Lilou dress, as well as instructions on how to drafting your own simple patterns for the Brigitte scarf and Clémence skirt. See, we told you it was good.
In short, we love it almost as much as we love Tilly. (Almost.)
