Who are the designers behind the Lucky Dip Club + Folksy Box? {Part Two}

lucky dip club, folksy, what's in the box?, independent designers

Last week we revealed five of the amazing designers creating a *brand new* product especially for our Lucky Dip Club + Folksy Box. Now it’s time to unveil five more. We’re over-the-moon excited to announce that our limited-edition box will have never-before-seen designs by Red Hand Gang, Little Birdy Crafts, I Am Acrylic, Paper Beagle and Kekekaka. And if you’re quick when they go on sale at 7am Friday 5 June, you might be one of the lucky few to get one. As before, we can’t tell you what they’re making (it’s a surprise), but we can tell you more about the designers and give you some clues…

Paper Beagle, lucky dip club, folksy, what's in the box?, independent designers

Paper Beagle is a lovely little paper company run by designer Helen in a tiny Derbyshire village with lots of sheep and a windmill. For the special-edition Lucky Dip Club + Folksy box Helen has created a pretty little treat that you can sew and grow.

What inspires you?
BEES! I love them and I especially love the flowers that feed them.
Fave product?
My plantable seed paper, it can be grown anywhere from windowsills to wildflower meadows.
Best thing to happen so far?
Seeing products published in the Guardian and Elle Decoration magazine. (And this, obviously!)
Dreams for the future?
To grow my very own wildflower meadow and keep bees.

I Am Acrylic, lucky dip club, folksy, what's in the box?, independent designers

I am Acrylic is Ruth Williams and Brendan Fan, who make jewellery and other stuff by hand and fretsaw in their Spitalfields workshop. For the Lucky Dip Club + Folksy box they have used all their super jewellery-making skills to create a brand new and deliciously healthy brooch.

What inspires you?
Ruth: Folk Art. Nature. My badge and drinks can collection from the 80s. Crockery and other bits from Spitalfields vintage market. And then basically everything else that I’ve ever seen with my eyes!
Brendan: Wandering around the Barbican Centre and the surrounding complex is always amazing.

Fave product:
Ruth: I love a bit of embroidery, so maybe I’d have to choose our stitched Bumblebee brooch.
Brendan: Our power station brooch, inspired by the huge cooling towers at Didcot!

Best thing to happen so far:
Ruth: Being on Going Live at the same time as Bros in 1989 was quite good! Business wise, just being able to work full-time on I Am Acrylic is probably the best thing ever!
Brendan: Seeing our things sold at the Design Museum is pretty special.

Dreams for the future:
Ruth: I’d like to buy an electric bench grinder for shaping and polishing – and maybe a wood-turning lathe one day – endless fun and possibilities!
Brendan: A tour of power stations in the UK.

Fave product?
My mini friends.

Best thing to happen so far?
Summer is coming!

Red Hand Gang, lucky dip club Folksy box

Red Hand Gang is a world of playful designs and illustrations created by Abi Simmons in a little terraced house in Oxford. For the Lucky Dip Club + Folksy box she has transformed her fun illustrations into something you could and should wear.

What inspires you?
My slightly wayward girls and their energy inspires and keeps me going, along with a bit of mid-century design, happy Japanese packaging, and meeting lots of lovely other small businesses and designers on Instagram – a whole world of inspirational people at your fingertips!

Fave product?
It has got to be the hangers –I LOVE painting them. Putting that final coat of varnish on so the colours really glow, packaging them up in tissue and sending them off to their new homes. Love it!

Best thing to happen so far?
When Folksy made me their ‘Shop of the Week‘ last year, that was a huge moment for me. Not only was it rather nice to find out people like my stuff, it also created an explosion of orders, publicity and fab new opportunities.

Dreams for the future?
Ooohh, more designs – there are lots in the pipeline – and maybe someone to help me sand everything. That would be really amazing!

shed studio, little birdy

Little Birdy is the colourful and quirky work of one determined Little Bird enthusiastically crafting in Bristol. For the Lucky Dip Club + Folksy box this little birdy has magicked one of our favourite summer treats into something totally tactile.

What inspires you?
Animals, fantastical things, bright colours and patterns. Along with doing collaborations with other artists!

Fave product?
Currently my new porcelain animal head wine stoppers.

Best thing to happen so far
Professionally, being Shop of the Week on Folksy along with their continued support and the opportunities that has brought me, and doing Renegade Craft Fair in London last December. However personally, it has to be becoming part of such an amazing craft community and having met so many talented and inspiring makers.
Dreams for the future
To be stocked at Liberty or Anthropologie, along with a better work life balance!
