3 festive pies from Treaclezoo

2009 has been a big year for Folksy and we just wanted to say thanks to all our buyers, sellers and partners for making it such a success. The site has really grown since this time last year and it’s been very busy in the run up to Christmas. We’ve attracted a lot of new customers and had great feedback from them. Lots of people want to buy handmade and have told us they’re really delighted with the amazing things they find on Folksy.

Folksy Christmas Upcycle ‘Do’

We’ve organised a party for Monday 30th of November at The Fellow Pub (Map) in Kings Cross, London from 18:30. It’s our Christmas do and we wanted to have it with you.

The room can hold 60 ish and we’ve saved up and put some money behind the bar so you can all get a drink or two.

We want to do two things on the night:

  • Share things. We’ll have a “show and tell” / “how to” corner. For 15 mins you are encouraged to talk about how to make something or something you’ve made. Or just talk. There’s a spreadsheet here you can put you name and book a time slot. As of now it’s just me talking about where we’d like to go with Folksy.
  • Make stuff. Sue Ryder Care will be providing bags of stuff for you to make things with. You’ll have to bring your own ‘tools’ but we’d love it if you could get crafty and either continue with a piece you’re making for the Sue Ryder Care Upcycle competition or start something new.

That’s it. Grab your ticket to come to the event (the first set is limited to 40) We’ve got 60 available. They are free but you need to be registered with Folksy to order tickets (you can get two so do bring a friend). Hope to see lots of you next Monday :)

Events

Can’t come?

If you can’t come then do say hello anyway with the hashtag #folksydo on twitter. We’ll be using the same hashtag to give you a sense of the occassion and they’ll be (messy?) pictures and video which we’ll point you at afterwards.

Happy Christmas

Thank you to all of you for making the first 6 months of Folksy so enjoyable and successful. May the next 6mths bring you lots of fun, freedom (to do more craft and design stuff) and, of course, sales. :)

Here’s a wallpaper we knocked up from the Folksy Angels submissions (right click to save as wallpaper).

See you in the New Year when we’ll be announcing new competitions and giving an overview of the activity on Folksy to-date.

Update: and this is for Heather and Rob, after their request for my rendition of Matt Munro’s Born Free. My version is uncannily like Matt’s, no?

Vote for t’angels

So, the We Make Christmas Folksy Angels competition deadline is over and we now need your vote! You probably won’t remember but we put this comp up to get people making Christmas decorations using recycled materials. And we’ve had some fab entries. Please choose the one you like most by putting your vote in the comments. The winner will win a whole year’s worth of free listings and sales on Folksy :)

So, please vote for your favourite in the comments below (don’t look down, you’ll get vertigo, this has to be one of the longest blog posts since oh, Dan Hill’s last post). To make your choice you might want to look at each photo close up. There are lots of notes on each flickr page of them detailing how people used the recycled materials which you might want to consider when voting.

DEADLINE FOR VOTING: voting finishes at midnight on the 3rd Dec.. Doh! we should have said midnight GMT!

VOTING HAS NOW CLOSED Thank you to everyone who took part – we’ll post up the winner later today :)
