What is the Weekend of the Maker?
Over the weekend of 26-27 November 2016, Folksy, Crafty Fox Market and creative hub Roco are coming together to celebrate makers across the UK in very special event – The Weekend of the Maker. The Weekend of the Maker will explore the many elements that go into being a maker today and will include:
– a craft fair featuring more than 40 designers and makers from across the UK on each day
– an all-day embroidery workshop with Marna Lunt and stained glass taster day with Jenny Newall
– craft drop-ins – make a macramé hanging planter with Stitch-Up on Saturday, and a chunky knitting and pom pom bauble workshop on Sunday with Wool Couture
– Instagram workshops with Emily Quinton, and Sara from Me and Orla, a product photography workshop and talk with Yeshen Venema, how to sell to shops workshop with Moonko, social media and SEO advice with Folksy and one-to-one sessions with marketing expert Hilary Pullen
– an evening social-come-party
The Weekend of the Maker will showcase skilled makers currently working across Britain, uncover new talent, celebrate experienced talent, give people the opportunity to try new craft and design techniques and brush up on social media, photography and business skills.
Where is it happening?
The Weekend of the Maker is happening at the Roco Creative Co-op in Sheffield. Roco is a beautifully refurbished row of Georgian houses in the university district that incorporates studios, a café-bar, a fully-equipped makerspace, bookshop, design shop and galleries.
Why Sheffield? Sheffield has a long history of making; famous for its cutlery, it has built up a well-deserved reputation as a city of makers, and has more artists per square foot than any other city outside London. It’s also the home of Folksy – the largest British marketplace specialising in craft and handmade – so it’s the perfect location for an event that celebrates the maker.

Crafty Fox craft fair
The centrepiece of the Weekend of the Maker will be our Christmas Craft Fair curated by Crafty Fox Market, Folksy and Roco, featuring glorious handmade pieces by some of the best designers and makers in the UK. This is the place to do your Christmas shopping away from the Black Friday madness, with good vibes and good stuff.

Take part in the workshops
Over the weekend we will be running a series of hands-on craft workshops, as well as photography, social media and business skills sessions, which you can book online now! There will also be a macramé drop-in workshops that you can sign up for on the day.

An evening social
After hours on the Saturday evening, we will be turning up the volume for a social-come-party at Roco, where makers can mingle and enjoy DJs and festive feel-good times. The social starts at 7pm.
