New categories for Children & Baby and Weddings

by admin

A long, long time ago (sorry!) we said we would review the categories that Folksy uses to classify all the items for sale. This will always be a work in progress but we really want to make some changes to the way things are organised. So now there are two new categories as follows:

Children and baby

This category is for items that are specifically for children and babies (at the moment you can only add an item to one category at a time). The sub-categories are:

  • Accessories
  • Baby care
  • Bags, cases, purses and wallets
  • Clothing and shoes
  • Homeware
  • Jewellery
  • Stationery and paper goods
  • Toys and playtime

Check out the new Children and Baby category.

Weddings

For all wedding items.

  • Accessories
  • Bags, cases, purses and wallets
  • Clothings and shoes
  • Gifts
  • Hats and hair accessories
  • Homeware and decorations
  • Stationery and paper goods

Check out the new Weddings category.

There are also two new sub-categories as follows:

  • Accessories > Hair accessories
  • Homeware > Pets

We realise that there will always be things that don’t clearly fit into one category but we’ve done our best to come up with broad headings that can accommodate the majority of items (based on items for sale on Folksy at the moment). Shopkeepers, if your items fit in to any of these new sections please edit your listings so that they appear in the right place. This will really help buyers to find what they are looking for.

We’ll continue to review the rest of the categories and have some other requests to consider (we’ve got requests for collectables, stained glass, better clothing sub-categories – anything else?). If you have any feedback on how we can improve them please let us know.

What about a category for ‘Handmade craft supplies’ with sub categories for yarn, beads, buttons, fabric, charms etc.?

Thanks for this – but couldn’t this sort of info be sent out by email to all sellers? Not everyone looks at the blog regularly.

I wonder if it would be possible to get a sub category for sock animals at some point? I’ve noticed we can only really list them under toy or dolls which they are niether really, thanks for listening.

Thanks for this. I think it will be a real help. I’ve just gone thro’ the baby sub-categories and they seem to make sense. i’m hoping to add some baby stuff and I think the new sub-categories will make it much easier.
