We’re really excited as the Folksy Sampler, our very own festive newspaper has gone off to the printing press and thousands of copies will be flying out all over the countryside in just a few weeks. The sampler is a great way for Folksy to show off some of the best items we have for sale and includes information about our website, gift guides and lots more to read and look at. Take a look at the 2009 Folksy Festive Sampler for an idea of how it will look, of course this year it’s even better and has alot more handmade gift ideas.
We need the help of Team Folksy!
We want paper girls or boys to take a bundle of 200 papers each (or more if possible) to effectively distribute to selected venues in their area. We’ll have the papers couriered to your door but what happens next is up to you.
We’ll send you a free bag, printed with the Folksy logo to use to deliver the papers and that’s yours to keep as a thank you for all the hard work. We only have a limited print run, so we can’t send everybody papers (or bags) unfortunately but we’ll publish a google map of where you can go and pick up a copy of the sampler. You’ll also be able to look at it online too so tweeters and facebookers – get ready for some serious link sharing, we’ll be needing lots of help with this. (Are you excited, we are!)
Ideas for venues to leave the sampler
Craft Fairs
Arty and Crafty Shops
Bars, Restaurants and Cafes
Theatres and Independent Cinemas
Your workplace
We have created a form for you to fill out. We need delivery details and we also need you to let us know where you have got permission to leave some bundles of our Christmas Sampler – the above are just ideas, I’m sure you can think of a perfect place full of people that really appreciate beautiful handmade items. You may need to make a few phonecalls or send some emails first to be sure a venue will be allowed or willing (unless you are directly connected to the venue and you’re sure it will be fine).
Delivering the papers door to door is not what we’re after as this would be unsolicited mail – we’re keen that every paper gets read so it’s important that we target the right venues, full of buyers as well as potential new sellers. We’ll look through, choose a good geographical spread across the UK and start sending out emails to confirm delivery dates as soon as possible. Sorry we can’t send them out in smaller quantities, it becomes extremely expensive in postage as we learned the hard way last year. However, we will be sending individual copies to the press.
YES I want to help and I’ve confirmed some potential venues, take me to the form now
9/11/2010 we have now closed the form, many thanks for all the applications, Folksy will be in touch shortly.
If you are unable to help don’t worry, but do visit Folksy to look at all the gorgeous handmade Christmas decorations. It’s November now so you can officially get festive (and start buying!) Just tell the misery guts that say it’s too early that you have permission from Folksy :)
Please share this post with your Folksy friends and let us know how excited you are by leaving a comment here or over on our facebook page.

Brilliant. Count me in. I missed out on this opportunity last time.
I am organising a handmade Christmas Craftacular in Guildford, Surrey on Sat 27 Nov & Sat 4 Dec – we have 20+ sellers on both days and expect a goodturn out – am happy to distribute on those days.
Hi Stephanie – just fill out the link with your details please – we can’t gaurantee everybody will get a bundle but we’ll try :)
I work for the NHS, so am happy to leave them in waiting areas ect.
I have 2 fairs coming up if u can get them to me before the 27th i would be more than happy to help
I will pass some around too. Doing craft fairs and will leave in my local town’s coffee shops!!
I could take some if they’re ready for w/end of 4th Dec – will be doing a 2 day craft fair :)
…to follow on from previous comment – I’ll be going to the venue at the w/end to collect some of their leaflets so will ask permission then & email if it’s granted!
I’m happy to take some to spread around Bridport (Dorset coast)… loads of arty crafty things going on here, plus lots of vintage shops, cafes, markets etc.
Not really able to help distribute 200 but if anyone in the Southampton area is going to be distributing I can take some copies along to the craft groups I belong to and also give some to a friend who also runs a craft group. am happy for you to pass my email address on to them or for them to contact me via Folksy :-)
I am selling 25-28 November at The Knitting and Stitching Show and can put some out.
How will you decide what goes in the paper?
Also doing Fair Trade Fair at Uni of Leeds in a prime location on campus on 30th Nov.
I have a stall at Queen Elizabeth Girls’ School Christams Fair in Barnet on The 4th December with my Anna Jane Jewellery Collection. I teach Art there also, and I think it will be a great way of inspiring the Kids and Parents to tap into the craft buzz for themselves, and find inspiration and ideas on folksy. I am more than happy to distribute, as long as they can arrive in time for the event. Anna Jane Jewellery x
I am taking part at a local fundraiser with a host of handmade stalls, can have them on view there & if its okay send out to customers with orders too.
I will try to find some venues for distribution, I thought it looked brilliant last year.

Yes sending out with orders is a great idea Helen – they are quite large papers though so we wouldn’t want you to be out of pocket.
There’s still lots of time to complete the form, we’ve already had a great resonse, hopefully this years will be even more succesful!
I’ll help! Am going to several fairs and will distribute there, plus my church, work, and will leave a cheeky few in pubs etc!
I’ll be a paper girl – did it last year and got through them really quickly!

I’d love to help out. This is my first Christmas on Folksy :)
I’m up for it. I’ve got a few fairs etc and my hairdresser friend will take some to work.
Let’s plug Folksy. When will you be sending them out? I’ve finished my Christmas Shopping already, so it’s a bit late for people like me – but I did get almost everything from here, so that’s OK.

I laughed my head off when I received my post bag today, what a lovely surprise! Can’t wait to get the newspapers. They will be proudly displayed in the gallery for visitors and we have an arts market in Ilkley on 11 December.
Jo
they should be with you all by early next week! Look out for an email from Sarah with more details.
