We want to help you find crafty people and places in your area!
We think it’s really useful for our Folksy members to find support from fellow crafters and artists in their own area. People to give tips and advice on which fairs and markets are right for your products, or to find local workshops and colleges where you can go to improve your skills (or learn new skills). It’s also helpful just to be able to chat and try to breakdown why an event is or isn’t successful for you so you can do better at the next craft event – or even club together to organise your own handmade fair or workshop.
Selling face to face can be a daunting prospect for a new crafter. We’ve written a number of posts giving advice for selling at craft fairs which are visited by hundreds of crafters a week, so we know that this is an area in which many makers lack confidence and experience.
There are many local craft collectives and groups around the country where you can join in and learn from shared experiences – but where are yours?
We have added a number of new regional ‘stickies’ to our Folksy UK Craft Events Forum to help our members find great craft fairs and regular craft markets to buy and sell at. We’ll be gradually adding lists of links to all the crafting networks specific to your area – so bear with us and do come back and check how we’re getting on.
How you can help…
We want to know about crafting events in your area to help build up our lists of useful local links, so please use these threads above to tell us about them – contemporary maker markets and craft fairs, organisations, craft collectives, workshops, groups and galleries. We want to build up a list of the great resources and regular (or upcoming) events for your area.
We are also looking for members to write up posts for our new Craft Local blog series – get in touch with firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in writing a piece, whether you are an event organiser, a shopkeeper here at Folksy.com or just someone that loves visiting handmade fairs and craft events in your area, we’d love to hear from you.
Thanks in advance for your help – let us know if you have any questions :)
