Famous Birthdays!

I have dedicated hours and hours of my life to researching Famous Birthdays for my And you thought you were special birthday cards and so like to dedicate each Friday on my own blog to silly and often tenuous links between birthday boys and girls (living or dead) with folksy items!

Today I have the honour of curating Folksy’s own Folksy Friday blog post (cor!) so today’s famous birthdays are:
1. Stevie Wonder, 61 today

Mr Wonder (born Stevland Hardaway Judkins) who’s hits include Superstition, I Just called to say I love you and Sir Duke was recently listed 5th in Billboard Magazine’s Hot 100 All-Time Top Artists.

2. Daphne Du Maurier, 1907-1989

Dame Daphne (as if you didn’t know) was an English author and playwright most famous for her masterpiece Rebecca. She also wrote the short stories behind Hitchcock movies Jamaica Inn and The Birds.

3. Harvey Keitel, 72 today

Something of a fox in my opinion, Mr Keitel is most famous for playing cops in movies. He was a nice one in Thelma and Louise, a not so nice one in Bad Lieutenant and is now starring in the U.S. version of Life on Mars.

4. Buckethead, 42 today

Real name Brian Carroll, Buckethead is a guitar virtuoso noted for his work with Guns ‘N’ Roses, Bootsy Collins and Iggy Pop. As part of his on stage persona he wears a KFC bucket on his head with a bumper sticker on it which reads ‘funeral.’

5. Mary Wells, 1943-1992

Mary Wells was The Queen of Motown and one of their first ever singing superstars. Her biggest hit was ‘My Guy’ which was ‘covered’ by Whoopi Goldberg singing ‘My God’ in Sister Act also starring none other than Harvey Keitel who played a gangster and not a cop. Bang goes my theory!

…no muscle bound man could take my hand from my guy!

6. Robert Pattinson, 25 today

Behave yourselves Fang Bangers!

For those of you who live on Saturn, Robert Pattinson is an actor best known for playing Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and vampire Edward Cullen in The Twilight Saga. He is also currently frequenting the bus stop outside my house with Reese Witherspoon and an elephant?

Incidentally, and sticking with the Vampire theme, it’s also screenwriter Alan Ball’s birthday (54 today) He’s the creator, writer and producer of the HBO drama series Six Feet Under and True Blood. Whaddaya know eh?

Other notable famous birthdays include actress Samantha Morton, rock and roll legend Richie Valens, Alison Goldfrapp, basketball bad boy Dennis Rodman, Arthur Sullivan of Gilbert and Sullivan, Johnny “Mr Eurovision” Logan, Richard Madeley and Danny Kirwan of Fleetwood Mac.

I tried to guess the theme before I read the blog, failed miserably! Very cleverly done! Love the Mr. Fox pendant.

I really like the fox necklace too, he looks so dapper and I wouldn’t have guessed that it was Harvey Keitel. I initially thought it was George Clooney since he was Fantastic Mr Fox.

Great theme and nice picks! I had heard of them all – except Robert Pattinson – and I haven’t been on Saturn – honestly ;o)

Indeed, I wouldn’t know if I didn’t have a 21 year old sister and a best friend obsessed with Vampires and Harry Potter!

Love the fox to depict Harvey Keitel, very apt. Thought he was so cool as ‘The Cleaner’ in Reservoir Dogs. Great picks as always. :)
