Pinterested?
Three times a week the team at Folksy pick a selection of themed items for the front page. These items represent the very best we have to offer, great images, great products and all handmade here in the UK! We want to wow people that visit us for the first time and tempt the passers by to come on in and have a good mooch around – just as a bricks and mortar shop would dress their window displays.
We are giving the Folksy.com community a chance to get involved and create some great front page themes! At present we don’t have a sytem of creating favourite sets of items for Folksy members, although it is one of the many things we’d love to offer in the future as we develop the site. We want you to create your themes for the front page using Pinterest boards. In return we’ll let everyone know when we announce the new featured items on our facebook page that the front page has been curated by you! We will only use really excellent collections and themes as we spot them, so make them stand out!
You can find out all about pinterest and an invite link to join here – Pinterest – you’re invited!
Pinterest is basically a very cool virtual pinboard where you can create collections of images from around the internet. Images of items that inspire you, favourite recipes, tutorials, mood boards, books, kittens?! We know many of you are already using it to create collections of your Folksy favourites too, and we’re also enjoying seeing these items repinned from users all around the world. You can see all of the Folksy pins here – http://pinterest.com/source/folksy.com/.
Here’s what you need to do to get involved:
- Pick an interesting title and theme and create a new pinterest board – use the pinterest help pages if you are unsure how to do this.
- Add Folksy items using the pinterested bookmarklet, we need 18 items to consider it for use on the front page. Here is an example from my personal pinterest page – http://pinterest.com/haptree/envy/ to give you an idea of a theme.
- Once you have created it send us a message with the link over on our Folksy pinterest page – http://pinterest.com/folksy (as shown in the image to the right – please don’t message our support team directly with pinterest boards) Be sure to include your folksy user profile or shop name in the message so we can find you.
- Not every board will be used, and we may edit a theme if there’s one or two items we can’t use. Please don’t message us for a critique if we don’t choose yours – but please do send us another board to look at :)
We hope you are all raring to go and get pinning – Please ask if you have any questions!

fab! I love pinterest!
Fabulous idea. xx
Good idea until you come up with a way for us to create Folksy collections on site. Are we allowed to include one of our own items in the collections?
(Artfire allow it, Etsy doesn’t…)
I think this a great idea! Will join in :-)

averil pam – I had a chat with the team about this and we felt that we would rather you created beautiful and original collections you love that don’t centre around your own items. We will credit you on our fb page if your theme is chosen however, so there is a promotional element to taking part :)
Sent you my 80s themed board and my Time for Tea board.
Hope I am chosen!
