Renegade London Fair 15th and 16th September

by James

The best fair in town!

In our opinion Renegade is the best craft fair in the UK. We were blown away by their fair last year and decided at the time that if we were going to get involved in a craft fair this year, Renegade would be it. If you didn’t make it last year and haven’t seen some of the photos on Flickr do check them out.

So, we’re partnering with Renegade this year to bring you the London Fair on the 15th and 16th of September. We’re in great company as the excellent Mollie Makes, The Make Lounge and Crafts Council are also partnering with Renegade to make this years event even better than last years.

We’ll be there, being amazed by the exhibitors and their work and facilitating joy and happiness with a couple of secret squirrel things we plan to do ourselves.

First up, we want to see Folksy people at the event, so apply to take part:

Call to Artists!

The Renegade Craft Fair’s 2nd Annual London event is fast approaching!  This September 15+16 Renegade will take over part of the Old Truman Brewery in London’s East End and turn it into a weekend-long craft-stravaganza showcasing the who’s-who of independent design and craft.  We are seeking the best and brightest Indie / DIY Artists, Crafters, and Makers to show London what this amazing scene is made of!

Apply now as space is limited!

UPDATE: there are still a few spaces left despite the page stating that the closing date was the 12th July – we’ve asked Renegade to clarify the new end date.

Oo, sounds fun. May come along for a mooch around.

Though this sounded like a great opportunity until I saw that fee was in USD (sounds silly, but I am sceptical of paying non UK currency for a UK event) – payable up front via PayPal – plus they keep $25 even if you are unsuccessful.

If Folksy were not partnering the event this would sound like a scam to me :o(

Renegade are a proper bona fide event company and one of the best. They just happen to be based in the US. This is only their second UK Craft Fair. It’s worth checking out their US fairs online as they have a great following.

Nice if you can afford it.

James August 9, 2012 - 9:53 pm

Hi Sam,
I think the idea is that you’d make the money back and more if you planned it well. Renegade offer advice in terms of sales and the application process means that they are careful to select people who will sell well.

Couldnt afford it but will def try to pop along and check out the stalls.

Will Folksy list which Folksy sellers are having a stall? It would be nice to support our fellow Folksy sellers.

Shame the application deadline passed a few weeks ago! They’re now automatically rejecting all applications!

James August 10, 2012 - 12:31 pm

There are spaces left – as we spoke to Renegade only yesterday. So, I’ve asked them to amend to the page and clarify the application end date.

$400 ? wow. It’d be hard to sell enough to make it worthwhile paying for transport and stall unless you have very high ticket items I think.

Little Red Press August 11, 2012 - 2:52 pm

I got a message from Renegade yesterday inviting me to apply. They said the new closing date was 1st September. Don’t think I can afford it and not sure I can make enough stock in time but still hugely flattered to have been approached. It looks brilliant!

James August 11, 2012 - 6:07 pm

Hey, yeah they have update the page now! Be great to see you there as a seller or buyer. Some people have remarked that $400 is high – but it’s a high profile event in London with a big audience. Anyone with good stock levels and appropriate margins should make that back and more.

This is very short notice. I would have liked several months really.

jodie August 16, 2012 - 11:22 am

Do you know if they will be doing this fair again next year?

James September 6, 2012 - 10:56 am

I’m not sure Jodie. Best to ask Renegade directly.
