The Amazing Business Card Making Machine

by James

Yesterday (that’s Monday the 19th Nov) we quietly launched a feature we’ve been working on for a while which we’ve called the Amazing Business Card Making Machine (ABCMM for short). It works like this:

  • Click the link in your dashboard that says “Business Cards
  • Select some images from your Folksy account using our image picker
  • Choose to either to get a free pack (if it’s your first time you only pay P&P) or a 30% discount pack of business cards (if you’ve already had a free pack)
  • Change any text or images on the business cards and choose rounded or straight corners
  • Press purchase
  • Hey presto! Your Folksy business cards will be winging their way to you in 4 business days

Your cards will look similar to these, below, with special branding. The front of the cards has your shop name, URL and an image and the back of the cards has your name, shop name and URL.

We’ve worked with MOO to deliver this feature *just* for Folksy sellers, to help you reach out to customers and potential customers.

“At MOO we’re delighted to be integrating with Folksy helping UK crafters and artisans in their personal branding efforts”

Paul Lewis, Head of Marketing at MOO

So what can you do with your business cards? We’ve had a few ideas:

Gift Tags

Or, perhaps as follow-up cards to hand out at markets

Have you any new ideas on how to use the cards?

This looks like a fantastic idea! I think they would be great for giving out to customers at craft fairs, perhaps as an incentive for them to visit your Folksy shop after the event.

Yes! Giving an incentive for people to come back to you / your shop is a great idea.

My wife just yesterday got a pack of the mini Moo cards, and apart from being business cards to hand out and slip into every delivery, they make excellent earring holders.

Just ordered mine today! I can’t resist Moo stuff and have ordered almost all of their products over the years and still get excited to see them arrive!

Lovely idea!

Just as an aside… does that email addy work for us? is it our shop name @folksy.com?

or is that just for admin?

heather aka NiftyKnits November 20, 2012 - 9:11 pm

this is what immediately interested me too! I’ve sent me a test…sorry for the annoyance if we all do that and poor admin have cluttered inboxes!

heather aka NiftyKnits November 20, 2012 - 9:11 pm

nope, bounced back “this mailbox does not exist”

Hi Katy – the folksy email written on the card is just an example! Sorry if that was confusing.

that’s one for the suggestion box then!

Just ordered mine! Thanks for providing the link and designing the template, made it really easy to order in just a few minutes. Sad I couldn’t get the round corners, not sure why the button didn’t work when I clicked on it… Still, super happy and excited to receive my free business cards, thank you Folksy! Leanne xx

Tried to order – the first time it crashed, the second time it failed to upload most of my selected photos, so I gave up!

James November 21, 2012 - 1:53 pm

Hi Christine, would you mind letting us know via support what you did and what went wrong? This will help us diagnose the problem and see if it is a bug that wasn’t caught in our tests. Thanks, James.

I ordered mine on Monday and I will firstly use mine as a “walking catalogue” of what’s in store so I can show people a large selection of items that are available, removing those featuring items that sell and use those to send out with items.

James November 22, 2012 - 9:36 am

Great idea!
