Be part of the Folksy Village at The HandMade Living Show

by Camilla

The HandMade Living Show is a major new lifestyle event, the biggest “hand made” shopping experience on these shores, and it’s coming to Earl’s Court in London on the 5th to 7th September 2014. The show will combine handmade shopping with craft sessions, demonstrations, talks, and tutorials. So visitors can get the kit, get the inspiration and get the finished piece all under one roof. This is the show for everyone with a passion for all things handmade.

This is your chance to be there – as part of the Folksy village.

Exhibit your craft creations:
The Handmade Marketplace will offer one of the largest selections of British designers and makers ever brought together in the UK, selling quality craft to a passionate audience. The organisers are looking for stylish, modern crafts from creative, independent makers. Space is limited and selection criteria apply.

Or your craft supplies:
A key element of the show is to encourage people to get stuck in. After they’ve had a go in one of the craft feature areas, they will want to leave with the tools and inspiration to explore these new crafts at home. So the HandMade Living team are looking for a limited number of suppliers to supply the modern craft movement with the tools and products they need. So whatever craft product you sell – from stamps to bobbins, and fabric bundles to yarn – this could be just the right audience for your supplies.

Prices and details
The HandMade Living Show is offering Folksy sellers the opportunity to take a stand at the show at a special discounted rate of £600+VAT for a 3m x 2m stand. This is a larger space than the normal stands available for the same price, and also includes free stand lighting (which is normally extra). Stands in the Folksy Village will be in a specially branded area, which will also be featured in the show guide and floorplans. If the idea of taking a whole stand is a bit daunting, you can even share a stand with another Folksy seller.

Exhibitors in the Folksy village also have a chance to be featured as the maker of the week on the “Meet The Maker” section of the show’s website.  So the earlier you book a stand, the more chance of being featured, and the sooner the organisers can get the pre-publicty machine in gear and working for you!

Running up to the event we will also be featuring Folksy makers selling at the show across our social media sites, in our mailouts and on our blog, so there’s extra promotion too!

To apply for a stand, call the HandMade Living team on 07901 654000 or email: info@handmadelivingshow.co.uk.  Please quote your Folksy shop name as this offer is exclusively available for Folksy sellers.

Hi.
This sounds a fantastic opportunity. My shop has gone stale and I’ve had a complete re-brand since opening that shop. I now call myself ‘A Place to Set’. I still sell placemat sets, portable coasters but now I’ve added home themed items to my list too, such as cutwork applique cushion covers and scented felt house hanger sets. Am I still eligible to apply for a stand?

Hi Diane. The only requirement to be able to take advantage of this offer is that you have an active Folksy shop – so a shop with at least one of items in it. That way we can help promote your shop leading up to the event too. You can get more details by either emailing the HandMade Living team on info@handmadelivingshow.co.uk or calling them on 01474 556312. I hope that helps.

Thanks Camilla. I’ve emailed their page and subscribed to the newsletter. It sounds fab, aiming to focus on the younger market with an interactive hub. The figures they use on their ‘why exhibit?’ are really motivating. I better get my Folksy shop sorted then! I’m not confident I could make £600 work for me but then the other side of me says, ‘come on Diane, do it, it’ll be a blast’ but it’s just a bit overwhelming for me right now. I’m off to finish the placemat set I’m currently working on – I’ll have to do one a week to be able to get enough stock for this in September! :-)

Hello I would like to share a stall at The Handmade Living Show with a Folksy seller… any suggestions on how/ where to ask for co- stall holders?
Michaela

Hi Michaela. It’s probably best to speak to the HandMade Living team to see how the want to organise the shares. They might be wanting joint applications or they might organise shares by matching people up. Give them a call and see what they say. They’re very nice!

I would love to have a stall but I am not sure if I would have enough stock for the £600 fee to be viable. So I would also be up for a share if anyone would be interested and if the organisers allowed it.

All this sounds so exciting, and I would love to apply for a stall. I have only started my crafty business recently (but have been creating for years, just giving my goodies away to friends and family), so it would be a great opportunity to promote my start-up in a professional way. However I would like to know when is the deadline for applications. I’ve set myself a goal to generate certain income at local craft fairs and through Folksy by mid-May, and would like to apply by the end of May if my targets are met.

Hi Barbara. There isn’t an immediate deadline, but the sooner the booking the better the location generally and also the longer time to pay for the space. If you’re worried about securing a stall, it’s probably worth calling or emailing the Handmade Living team (their contact details are listed in the post).
