Donna February 23, 2016 - 11:48 am

Since giving up smoking and putting on lots of weight I find it difficult to find clothes I like in styles I like so I started making my own again and re-discovered just how satisfying it is to put on that finished garment once the last thread has been snipped 😃

Lea February 23, 2016 - 12:47 pm

I love the coat pattern especially. So I fine sewing my own clothes lets me expand my imagination. Ive always followed trends but like to out my own twist on things. ..Im also quite skinny…so petite waisted and tall enough for extra length in trousers…so its easier to make things to fit me than bought ready made. Usually; bought clothes end up too short in the leg…or too big in the waist…what can I say…Im a total fusspot ha ha…I need a little simplicity in my life!

Nicole February 23, 2016 - 12:49 pm

I’m quite slim and petite so I find it hard to find clothes that really fit me, being able to make my own clothes catered to my specific measurements is great, and I love the sense of accomplishment when a piece is completed, like, I made this!

Annie February 23, 2016 - 1:08 pm

Handmade clothes mean I can dress originally in clothes which fit my short stature.

Samantha Stanley February 23, 2016 - 1:10 pm

I’ve had my eye on that Retro blouse pattern for a while! Maybe I could win it?

Chrissie February 23, 2016 - 1:33 pm

I love being able to create my own ‘look’ – who wants to look like everyone else?!! And what else am I going to do with all this fabric I’ve accumulated?!!

Cherry Hurren February 23, 2016 - 2:42 pm

Louccee February 23, 2016 - 5:09 pm

I love handmade clothes because I can make them fit PERFECTLY! (and its a good excuse to buy more fabric)

Katie February 23, 2016 - 5:20 pm

I love fabric and creating things from it. It’s great going to an event or wedding and knowing you aren’t going to bump into someone in the same dress. I also love making baby clothes and know they won’t get given the same outfit from someone else!

Katy M February 23, 2016 - 7:13 pm

I love being able to create things that I’ve dreamed up myself!

Maralyn Smith February 23, 2016 - 7:38 pm

The best thing about making your own clothes is that they are unique to you. You can customise them as you want and use so many different fabrics to make them individual. Not just that – it’s great when people compliment you on what you’re wearing and the look on their faces when you tell them that you made it !!

Tonya February 23, 2016 - 7:48 pm

I love being unique with my style. Wearing something I made that is like no other is awesome! Being unique gives me the ability to be as creative as I want to be. I love it when i can say “I made it! “

RenataLaura February 23, 2016 - 8:42 pm

The latest fashions without supporting unethical sweatshops or spending lots of money either, the best fit, mix and match if two different sizes top/bottom. The right lengths, quality fabric.

meghan February 24, 2016 - 12:04 am

I love being able to get the perfect fit! No more frustration at ill fitting clothes :)

Sarah February 24, 2016 - 7:20 am

I’ m new to sewing and it is the satisfaction of learning something new that enables me to be creative and express myself in a far more meaningful way than going to a shop to buy a ready to wear item. Also taught myself to knit this year and both hobbies allow me to practice mindfulness whilst creating something beautiful.

Irene February 24, 2016 - 10:34 am

I just love the feel and smell of new fabric and the magic that happens when odd shaped pieces are sewn together to make a whole garment.

Angela Foster February 24, 2016 - 10:40 am

I love the whole process from choosing the fabric and the pattern and then fitting it to my body to create the perfect fit. It constantly amazes me to watch a flat piece of fabric become 3D, movable, shimmering , and part of my personality. Thats it really, the garment becomes a part of who I am.

Julia Walton February 24, 2016 - 11:39 am

I would love to win this prize because I did metalwork and woodwork at school and never learned to sew clothes! I think home sewn clothes will be great as you can ensure a perfect fit, and choose exactly the fabrics and styles to express your own personality.

Sophie February 24, 2016 - 12:18 pm

I love being able to make things I want to wear, rather than being limited to the choice in the shops, and I enjoy the whole process from fabric to garment.

L011ip0p February 24, 2016 - 12:48 pm

The sense of accomplishment after making something for yourself is amazing, you have created something unique, that fits well (which I NEVER find in shops!) and is just ‘you’ !!

Teresa Bettelley February 25, 2016 - 8:29 pm

I really enjoy the whole process of making my own clothes- finding a pattern, a gorgeous print on some fabric, the challenge of making a flat piece of fabric into a garment, and finally wearing a piece of clothing that only fits me, and no one else will ever have!

Ree Saheid February 25, 2016 - 8:48 pm

I love being able to make my own clothes because I can make things for perfectly and modify patterns/styles to my own unique tastes. Plus there’s the fun of looking at and choosing from hundreds of different fabric patterns, types, colours, prints etc.

Lindan February 25, 2016 - 8:54 pm

I’m a tricky shape so it is hard to get shop bought clothes that fit and flatter me. By making my own I can tweak the fit (the most important thing in my case), choose fabrics I love and know that I’m not going to turn up at work other a party to find someone wearing the same outfit. What’she not to like?

Bekk February 25, 2016 - 9:11 pm

I love starting with a pile of otherwise useless fabric and trim and finishing with a practical item someone will love.

Kat February 25, 2016 - 9:23 pm

Being able to make clothes that fit! Oh, and to be unique 😊

Elizabeth Silverton February 25, 2016 - 10:17 pm

I don’t have to put up with almost right, unpick and redo to get it just right. (We are all different!) Nobody will have the same truly unique clothes.

Lainey February 25, 2016 - 10:44 pm

I love seeing the smiles on peoples faces when I’ve made them something well fitting and unique to them. Love wearing things you will not see on someone else :D

Kathy E. February 25, 2016 - 11:25 pm

Sewing is my passion. I think about it all the time and some of my happiest times are in my sewing room, creating away! Handmade clothing is a special hobby because one can create such individuals looks with the fabric choices, patterns and details. The pieces can be altered to fit perfectly and patterns can be interchanged to fit the style of each person. When sewing clothing, you can be assured that no one else will be seen with the same garment! It is truly one of a kind!

gill February 25, 2016 - 11:49 pm

I’m still learning but love it that I can make unique clothes to fit

Lynn Potts February 26, 2016 - 10:49 am

I am a bit addicted to buying fabrics, and being to make exactly what I want with the stash that I have

Laura Pryke February 26, 2016 - 11:27 am

I love finding and experimenting with vintage fabrics – one of my favourite skirts is made from vintage curtains I picked up for £1.75 in a charity shop!

Eileenscraftstudio February 26, 2016 - 12:09 pm

As a seamstress I love creating new dresses and altering patterns to make something that little bit special. Being a shorter lady I’ve always had to be a bit creative when making my own dresses, skirts and blouses to wear. I have piles of beautiful fabric’s just crying out to be made into something special to wear.

ellie February 26, 2016 - 5:11 pm

I love making unique and original clothing that reflects who I am. Choosing my own fabrics and patterns makes that possible.

I love fabric! Making my own clothes allows me to buy and wear all the fabric I can’t resist buying! It would be a shame if it all stayed in a box!

KatherineK March 2, 2016 - 11:06 am

No two garments look the same although everyone using the same pattern. Everyone brings their own uniqueness to the design even if they don’t change anything about the pattern.

nicki marsh March 3, 2016 - 6:45 am

I am so uninspired when clothes shopping to see a whole rack of the same thing. Handmade is a great way to express your individuality.

Hazel Fisher March 3, 2016 - 11:32 am

I love being creative and making things. It’s relaxing doing something practical with my hands and it’s good having a sense of achievement when a project is finished! It can be difficult buying clothes I like, so if I make them I can choose a style a like, with fabric I love and end up with something unique. I like that I can make clothes that fit too – I haven’t made many clothes yet though, so this is something I’m still learning how to do better!
