We talk about it a lot, but great photographs really can help you sell more. A set of professional photos can help you get press coverage, give you more confidence in your work and make your products more appealing to potential customers. Sometimes it’s worth getting the professionals in.
So we’ve teamed up with two leading photographers to offer Folksy sellers the chance to get a set of professional product shots. We have three different photoshoot options so you can find the right one to suit your needs. Here’s what’s on offer…
Styled lifestyle photoshoot in Wales with Yeshen Venema
If you’re looking for lifestyle shots, Yeshen Venema will be taking a selection of products by Folksy sellers to Wales in September, where they will be styled by Hilary Lowe and photographed in two beautiful Welsh cottages.
The shoots will be split over two cottages in Carmarthenshire, West Wales. Both are traditional in style and offer a large choice of surfaces, furniture and props to match your products. Because of the location, these photoshoots are particularly suited to makers of textiles, ceramics, wood and glass. The two locations are:
TY UNNOS. A thatched cottage in a remote corner of Carmarthenshire.
BRYN EGLUR. An authentic traditional Welsh Cottage, on the same plot of land as Ty Unnos with a beautiful garden. thewelshhouse.co.uk/bryn-eglur/
Dates: 26-30 September 2016
Cost: 1-3 products = £75
Cost: 3-5 products = £100
If you’re interested in taking part in this shoot, contact Yeshen directly using the form here, where you can also find more details about the shoots. Places are limited, so please get in touch as soon as possible. You can see highlights of the first Folksy photoshoot which took place in May on Yeshen’s website www.yeshen.uk/locationshoots
White background photoshoot in Leeds with Kristy Noble
Kristy Noble regularly photographs products for magazines and books. She will be doing a special shoot for Folksy sellers who are looking for white background photographs (also known as cut-out shots), which are often needed by journalists for press features.
The shoot will take place in Leeds at Lord Whitney Studios – a loft-style space with lots of character and colour, and a new photography cove perfect for product shoots.
What you will get:
- High-resolution professional white-background photographs.
- Digital copies of all photos (not hard copies) in both hi-res and low-res formats.
- A one-hour product shoot. The number of products that can be photographed in this hour varies – email Kristy with details of your products and she can give you a better idea.
- The option to come along and watch the shoots to see how it’s done.
- If you don’t want to stick around for the shoot, you will need to arrange for your products to be sent to the studio and collected or returned after the shoot, along with instructions about how you would like your products photographed.
- If you’re worried about the cost of a full-hour session, there is the option to share your slot with another maker.
Date: 27th July 2016
Cost: £95 an hour
If you’re interested in this photoshoot, email email@example.com with your Folksy shop name and the range of products you’d like photographed, so she can arrange your session and fill you in on the details. You can see more examples of Kristy’s photographs on her website www.kristynoble.co.uk
Styled still life photoshoot in Leeds with Kristy Noble
If you want a more modern backdrop, Kristy will also be shooting styled still life images at the Lord Whitney Studios, using the full studio space as the creative backdrop. You can see more images of the space in the Lord Whitney Studio Tour.
The shoots will be styled by Hannah Bullivant from Seeds And Stitches. Hannah is a stylist, writer and blogger, who has had work published in The Guardian, Homes & Antiques, Mollie Makes magazine, and many more. You can keep up with Hannah on Instagram @hanbullivant
The day will work the same way as the white background shoot, so please see above for details. If you would like a set of white background and still-life photographs, you can take part in both Leeds shoots – but if you would like to attend the sessions, please note that they take place on different days.
