Golden Pinecone Tutorial
DIY Christmas ornament by Fay Austin from The Poncy Pantry
I’ve created a series of free festive tutorials for anyone who, like me, loves Christmas and loves making their own decorations. This DIY golden pinecone ornament is super simple but beautiful – imagine it hanging from your tree, surrounded by twinkling fairy lights.
For an elegant and festive look, opt for this hand-painted golden pinecone ornament. I love the contrast of the botanical element of the cone and the glamour of the artificial gold-coated glitter berries. The gold and the olive-green complement each other so well this time of year. Just follow the instructions below…
You will need:
- A large pinecone (try your local forest floor or if that fails, try Hobbycraft)
- Gold acrylic paint (try Pullingers)
- Small paintbrush
- Ribbon (you can find loads of beautiful ribbons on Folksy)
- Gold decoration (I got mine at M&S)
- Glue gun (mine’s from Hobbycraft)
How to make:

Step 1: Paint your pine cone with the gold acrylic paint
Step 1:
Begin by painting your pinecone with the gold acrylic paint. I did this roughly as I didn’t want to complete coverage and liked some of the natural brown to show through.

Step 2. Leave to dry for 30 minutes.

Step 3: Fold the ribbon in half and glue the ends together. Attach it to the pine cone.
Step 3:
Fold the ribbon in half and glue the ends together using the glue gun. Then attach it to the pinecone.

Step 4: Attach your gold decoration on top of the pinecone to finish.

Attach your gold decoration on top of the pinecone to finish.
That’s it! You’ve made a beautiful golden pinecone – how easy was that? They look beautiful hanging from the Christmas tree between twinkling fairy lights, or laid on the Christmas table. In the next tutorial we’re going to make a Rustic Ribbon Christmas Tree Ornament, so gather all your ribbon remnants and scour your garden for some pretty forged twigs!
