Chalkboard Gift Tag and Scrabble Christmas Ornament Tutorials
Two Christmas Deco DIYs by Fay Austin from The Poncy Pantry
If your time is stretched this Christmas but you still want to give something personal and handmade, why not give these two simple and inexpensive Christmas tutorials a go? First up is this beautiful little DIY chalkboard ornament that could also double as a gift tag. I love the green velvet and the bright ruby red berries against the black. These would also make the most gorgeous name place at the Christmas dinner table.
Chalkboard Gift Tag Ornament
You will need:
- Wooden Chalk Board Gift Tag (try Hobbycraft)
- Festive Stamp/inkpad (English Stamp Company)
- Festive Accessory (I got mine from M&S)
How to make:
Step 1:
Choose your design/stamp that will go on your wooden gift tag. I chose this little stamp from The English Stamp Company, but you could also personalise the ornament by writing someone’s name or a festive word.
Step 2:
Carefully and firmly stamp on to your wooden tag.
Step 3:
Using a glue gun or some strong adhesive, glue the festive accessory on to the top of your wooden tag.
Your chalkboard ornament is now ready to use!

Scrabble Christmas Ornament
I first made these little Scrabble ornaments a year ago as a Secret Santa gift when our budget was the bare minimum. I ended up spending even less than our budgeted amount and had to pair it with some homemade truffles. This Scrabble ornament is the perfect novelty. It’s cute, can be personalised and easy to recreate again if you wanted to make more than one!
You will need:
- Scrabble pieces (Hobbycraft)
- Ribbon (This mauve gingham ribbon was from my local haberdashery)
- Twine (find lots of twine on Folksy)
- Glue gun (Hobbycraft)
How to make:
Step 1:
Choose what word you would like for your gift. I’ve opted for festive words such as ‘Noel’ and ‘Joy’ but, alternatively, you could personalise them by doing the person’s name and add a more festive ribbon.
Then, using a glue gun or strong adhesive, glue the letters together.
Step 2:
With your ribbon, tie a neat bow and trim.
Step 3:
Take the twine and glue it securely to the back.
Step 4:
Glue the ribbon to the front of the ornament so it sits on top of the first letter.
That’s it! Now to string it from your tree.
