Hatching Chicks – behind the scenes of our first Folksy Friday film

by Camilla

Hatching Chicks is the first in our series of Folksy Friday fun films, spreading some handmade joy! It’s the first of nine animations that we’ll be releasing throughout May and June, and it’s been created by the amazing Leanne Warren of Mr Mouse and his Handmade House fame, with music by Steve Warren and additional animation by another brilliantly talented Folksy seller Yas Bowley (who also made this film about Folksy!).

‘Hatching Chicks’ features six gorgeous felted chicks made by Folksy seller Melanie Green at Feltmeupdesigns, making their way out of a Folksy egg box, with varying degrees of success!

As you’ll see in the video, a little play with some string and those chickadees had some flying fun

If you watch the video all the way through (you can do that below) you’ll also see a chick hatching from our Folksy logo! That’s the work of Yas, while the ukulele soundtrack adding a fun chickadee vibe is by Leanne’s talented husband Steve Warren, who also did the music for our Mr Mouse Christmas animation. It’s a real Folksy Family production!

“Mel’s chicks are adorable,” says Leanne. “I really love her embroidered chicks, which have contrasting coloured love hearts, but because of the time constraints we went with plain chicks for this animation. Mel made me three with sturdy wire legs and three without legs, so that I could easily fit them inside the hatching eggs. As you’ll see in the video, a little play with some string and those chickadees had some flying fun!”

If you want to find out more about Melanie and her needle-felted wonders, Leanne has interviewed Mel on her blog here – https://leapup.co.uk/2019/05/07/fly-chickadee-fly/ – and watch this space because there will be more about Melanie on our own blog very soon!

We’re totally smitten with the Folksy chickadees and we’re going to be disappointed now if all our eggs don’t come in Folksy boxes! We hope you love it too! If you do, please leave a comment and subscribe to our brand new YouTube channel!

Another of Mel’s felted creations (a gorgeous little penguin) will also be featuring in the ‘Unicorns and Rainbows’ animation on the 17th May, so look out for that and keep a close eye on our social media channels for more Folksy Friday fun every Friday in May and June.
