Join the ’12 Days of Folksy’ Instagram Challenge – 1-12 December 2019
We loved our 12 Days of Folksy Instagram Challenge so much last year that we thought we’d do it all again this Christmas – and we’d love you all to join in. It’s super easy to take part! Find out how here…
What is the 12 Days of Folksy 2019?
The 12 Days of Folksy is a festive Instagram hashtag challenge we’ve designed for you, our Folksy sellers, to help increase your visibility over the Christmas season, introduce you to new customers, grow your community and give you ideas for Instagram posts to make things easier and keep you motivated on social media when everything around you is going a little crazy. It will run from the 1st to the 12th of December, and you can join in as often as you like!
As this is an Instagram Challenge, it works best if you use it as an opportunity to connect, rather than to simply broadcast or advertise. So as well as sharing your own posts between 1-12 December, try to check the hashtag every day to see what other people are posting, and get involved by liking and commenting on their posts. This will help everyone get seen more – and because it shows Instagram that you’re an active member of the community, you’ll probably get a boost from their algorithm too. Bonus!
We’ll be sharing the prompt for that day every morning, to give everyone a reminder. Then every evening we’ll do a round-up sharing up to four posts from that day’s theme – giving you a chance to be featured on our Instagram!

How do I join in?
It’s really easy to take part. Here’s how:
- Check the daily prompts in the picture above.
- Create a post for each day from 1-12 December based on that day’s theme.
- Share your post on Instagram on that day, adding the #12DaysofFolksy hashtag to your caption.
- Tag us @folksyhq so we can see it.
What kind of things should I post?
We’ve kept the prompts broad so you can be creative! Interpret them how you like – think about giving people an insight into your creative life, snippets from your home and studio, how you do Christmas at your house, highlighting things like your craft skills, works in progress or beautiful packaging and your values.
This isn’t just about selling your products, it’s about connecting with people, so make your posts as interesting, creative and beautiful as possible.
I’m still not sure what to post for each day. I need inspiration!
We’re pleased you asked! Here are some ideas.
1 December – Tis the season
It’s the first day of advent as well as the first day of the challenge, so why not tell people you’re joining in with the 12 Days of Folksy 2019, introduce yourself and tell us how you celebrate advent (candle, calendar or chocolates all the way) your favourite Christmas traditions, or what you’re doing differently this year (maybe you’re giving less or only buying handmade from indie makers?)
2 December – Decorate
Tell us how you transform your home over the season. Is your tree up yet? Do you always decorate on the same day every year? Do you all do it together or do you like to keep a handle on all the decorations? Do you have a favourite bauble, handed down through generations? Show us your handmade decorations, your tree or a windowsill dressed in its festive finery.
3 December – Comfort & Joy
What are the most joyful bits about Christmas for you? How do you add a little extra comfort to your December?
4 December – Wish
What’s top of your Christmas wish list this year. What’s the present you most covet on Folksy? Or are you wishing for a more planet-friendly Christmas this year?
5 December – All is bright
If you like your Christmas to be colourful, this is the perfect prompt for you!
6 December – Secret Santa
Do you do a secret santa at your office or in your family? Have you ever done one? Has it ever gone disastrously wrong? If you did a Secret Santa with a celebrity, who would you want to pick out of the hat and what would you give them?
7 December – Star of wonder
Share your stars, literal or metaphorical.
8 December – All the trimmings
This could be your tree or it could be your Christmas dinner! Do you go totally overboard at Christmas or do you prefer to keep it simple. Is yours a minimalist or maximalist yule?
9 December – Nutcracker
You could go all out sugar plum fairy here or tell us about your Christmas traditions. Is there a play you always go to see, or a film you all gather round the telly to watch? Are you more an elegant Swan Lake or “oh no it isn’t” pantomime kind of kid?
10 December – Twinkle
Add a little bit of sparkle to your Insta today.
11 December – Winter wonderland
We do love a tree covered in snow, but what does your winter wonderland look like?
12 December – Believe
Let’s add a little festive love to Election Day by moving away from political beliefs to the more important question: do you still believe in the magic of Christmas. Just like in The Polar Express, can you still hear Santa’s bell ring?
What if I’m not on Instagram? Can I still take part?
Absolutely! If you’re not on Instagram, don’t worry. You can also take part on Twitter and Facebook or even on your blog. Just follow the same process as you would on Instagram.
I don’t understand what hashtags are. Can you help?
We can! We’ve got loads of articles on the blog about Instagram, hashtags and hashtag challenges. Here are some good ones to get you started:
