Well, here are three brilliant initiatives you can get behind this November and December, to help us get the message out there, showcase your creativity, tell people your story, shout about your amazing products and encourage everyone to shop independent!

Just A Card Indie Week – 25-29 November
We LOVE Just A Card and are so grateful for all the work they do to support makers and indie businesses. As a community we are all very lucky to have them. This year, they are once again running JUST A CARD – INDIE WEEK and we’d encourage you all to join in!
JUST A CARD – INDIE WEEK is about inspiring people to support, value and buy from small businesses, independent shops, artists, designers and makers at Christmas. In their words: “Whilst the world goes mad for the consumer fest that is Black Friday, JUST A CARD invites everyone to unite to add bags of creative colour to the week to encourage people to support independents this Christmas!”
It runs from Monday 25 November to Friday 29 November, culminating in INDIE FRIDAY on Black Friday.
As part of Indie Week, Just A Card are hosting a 5 Day Instagram Challenge – check the @justacard Instagram page for details and follow the daily prompts. Indie Week culminates in INDIE FRIDAY on Friday 29th November – a colourful alternative to Black Friday, where you are encouraged to sell, promote, buy, celebrate, be loud and proud, share new work, tell the world about sites like Folksy or other makers you love, and get everyone shopping independent this Christmas!
12 Days of Folksy – 1-12 December
The 12 Days of Folksy is a festive social media challenge we’ve designed to make your indie business more visible over the Christmas season. Whether you’re an artist, designer or maker, you can use it to meet new customers and fellow sellers, grow your community and showcase your creativity.
It will run from Sunday 1 December to Thursday 12 December 2019.
You can take part on any social media channel. To join in, check the list of prompts above (we’ll be sharing the prompts at the start of every day on Instagram and Twitter too), think creatively and then share a picture that fits the theme on one or across all your social media platforms, adding the hashtag #12DaysofFolksy. Every evening we’ll do a round-up on our @folksyHQ Instagram page sharing up to four of the best posts that day!

Meet the Maker Week – 2-7 December
#MeetTheMakerWeek is the little sister of Joanne Hawker’s #MarchMeetTheMaker challenge. It’s a week-long Instagram challenge “with the aim of showing the world a bit more about what you do”. As Joanne explains, it’s an opportunity to talk about yourself, show off you we make, be proud of what you make and tell the stories behind it all – as well as connect with new makers that you may not have otherwise found.
The official prompts will be released on the 20 November and the challenge itself begins on Monday 2nd December. Joanne will also be releasing a free planner you can download to give you a little extra help.
