In the next few days we will be making some changes to the Item Page on Folksy. The changes are mainly visual rather than structural, and are designed to make it easier for customers to shop, across desktop and mobile, as many more people are now shopping from their phones.
We have thoroughly tested the new page to ensure that there is minimum disruption (particularly at this time of year) but if you do spot any edge cases where something looks strange, please let us know here >
In this blog post we’re going to explain what we are changing on the Item Pages and why.

Changes in the screenshots above
- We wanted to better highlight your beautiful items, which means prioritising item photos. Photos will now show first, with the shop announcement getting its own section after the vital information about the product.
- On mobile, the buy button is now always visible to the user, so it doesn’t get lost as a customer scrolls down the page.
- We’ve modernised and highlighted the search box, so it’s easier for a user to interact with.
- The ‘Love’ (or ‘Favourite’) button has had its design updated to match the heart icon on the homepage.
- The quantity of each item that is in stock is now also more visible.

Supporting UK makers is at the heart of everything we do. Previously it wasn’t always clear to customers that they are buying from an independent artist or maker.
Now a seller’s bio is directly under the item title, so that there is a strong connection between the item and the seller. We’ve also brought back seller ratings on item pages to increase buyer confidence. The criteria for these are as follows (average review rating as a shop):
>= 1: 1 star
>= 2: 2 stars
>= 3: 3 stars
>= 4: 4 stars
>= 4.5: 5 stars

Changes in the screenshots above
- Each section has been tidied up and condensed so that a customer can more easily scan the content and choose which section to view in more detail.
- The font size across the item page has been increased to at least 16pts, making everything a lot easier to read.

Changes in the screenshots above
- Other shop items has been given much more space in the new design
- We are taking a richer visual approach to highlight key items, while making it clearer to the buyer how to view all the other items in your shop.

Changes in the above screenshots
- The footer has been updated to highlight any current events (such as the Christmas page)
- We have added an inline email sign up form, as opposed to the green subscribe button that was previously used.
