How to join the 12 Days of Folksy – 1-12 December 2021
The 12 Days of Folksy has been running for a few years now, and it has become is one of our favourite festive traditions. It’s a fun way to get into the festive spirit, share what you make and do, and learn about other creative folk on Instagram. This year we’re launching it on Wednesday 1st December with our brand new Folksy Christmas animation, created by the amazing Leanne Warren of Mr Mouse and his Handmade House fame.
Tune into @folksyHQ on Instagram on Wednesday morning to watch the premiere of the film and start joining in with our challenge!
Read on to find out how the 12 Days of Folksy works and how you can take part…
What is the 12 Days of Folksy?
The 12 Days of Folksy is a hashtag challenge that runs on Instagram from 1st to 12 December. It’s open to anyone – you don’t have to be a Folksy seller to join in – although this year it has a distinctly Folksy flavour :)
You can do the full 12 days or just play along when you can. There’s no pressure, it’s just a bit of fun!
Here are the prompts for 2021:
1st Dec – F is for… Finding Handmade Gifts
2nd Dec – O is for… Original
3rd Dec – L is for… Local
4th Dec – K is for… Kind to the Planet
5th Dec – S is for… Sustainable
6th Dec – Y is for… You-nique
7th Dec – M is for… Merry & Bright
8th Dec – A is for… All is quiet
9th Dec – K is for… Kisses under the mistletoe
10th Dec – E is for… Evergreen
11th Dec – R is for… Ribbons & Robins
12th Dec – S is for… Santa’s Helpers
We’ll share the prompts every morning on our Instagram account @FolksyHQ so you get a reminder.
To join in, share a post on your Instagram account (in the grid or in your Stories) based on that day’s theme. It can be something you made, an animation, a reel, a photo of your cats kissing under the mistletoe… whatever you want that fits the prompt. Then add the #12DaysofFolksy hashtag to your caption and tag us @FolksyHQ.
We’ll share some of our favourite posts every day on our grid and in our Stories.
What kind of things should I post?
The first six prompts are designed to get you talking about what you make and do. The second six are more festive. Interpret them how you like!
For example, for 1st December the prompt is “F is for… Finding Handmade Gifts” so maybe you could talk about why you shop handmade or share some of the things you’ve bought from makers this Christmas? The prompt for 5th December is ‘S is for… Sustainable‘, which is a great chance to talk about any ways your creative business is eco-friendly and what you are doing to have a more sustainable Christmas this year. On 6th December, you can tell everyone why what you make is “You-Nique.”
For ‘M is for Merry & Bright’ on 7th December, maybe you could share a picture of your studio decorated for Christmas, and on the 8th December, when the prompt is ‘All is Quiet’, you could talk about what you’ll be doing when you close the doors on your creative business for Christmas?
This challenge isn’t just about selling your products, it’s about connecting with people, so make your posts as interesting, creative and gorgeous as possible.
