Introducing LuxArt Candles
We are delighted to introduce to you one of our newest Folksy shops: LuxArt Candles. This flourishing candle-making business is run by husband and wife team, Guntis and Daria, from their studio in Folkestone. We chatted with the couple to discover a little more about LuxArt Candles and working together as a family.

Your candles are so imaginative. Have you always been creative?
Daria: I have always had a multifaceted inner world and creativity has always been part of who I am. I see novelty, ideas, lightness and love in everything. I have enjoyed a varied career in merchandising, photography, singing and having an active life.
Guntis: For me, I express myself and my creativity as a model and actor and now as a candle maker.

How did LuxArt Candles start?
It started with a spark of an idea while travelling. We discovered a small Christmas market and wanted to recreate the cosy, welcoming vibes in our own home. We bought a small set of pillar candles and Christmas napkins and let our imaginations run wild. When we shared a picture of our creation on Instagram, people loved it so much that we decided to make our own candles.
We wanted to give people the opportunity to create a bit of magic in their own homes and so, LuxArt Candles was born.

What’s your favourite creation so far?
Honestly, right now our favourite creation is our small business. We pour so much love, time and energy into it and are so proud of our unique-looking candles. Everything we create is made with so much love and care. From the idea to launch, each candle takes at least 3 months to create.
We love that your products are made with sustainability in mind. The dissolvable packing peanuts look awesome. Why is this important to you?
We are proud to offer sustainable packaging that looks amazing. Have you seen our paper bags on Instagram for sending orders with the image of whales? Our soluble peanuts are biodegradable, which means they have less impact on the environment and that’s very important to us.

Your fragrances are very unusual. How do you come up with your ideas?
Scent is such a powerful sense and we create emotions with ours. When people smell our candles, we want to transport them to places in their imagination or evoke memories of childhood. This brings us joy.
All of our fragrances are divided across the four seasons: spring, summer, autumn, winter. As we are heading into Autumn in the UK, we have a fun range of Halloween scents to get people excited.
LuxArt is a family business. What’s it like to work with your family?
In our family, we always try to keep a balance, so advance planning is key. One of the best things about working with your family is that we know how to help each other, often without even speaking. Our core values are love, support, understanding and the ability to listen and hear each other.

What does the future hold for LuxArt candles?
We want to continue to grow our business and to keep creating unique and wonderful designs, to support the environment and to create jobs for local people.
We are very excited about our latest collection: an unusual set of candles, modelled on different body parts. They are like functional art pieces and we can’t wait to hear what people think of them.
Where can people keep in touch with you?
