Customers can now check out with Apple Pay & Google Pay
Behind the scenes at Folksy HQ, there is a hive of activity. Last month we launched our new search experience and today we are excited to launch our new one-click checkout.
This means customers can now check out directly from an item page with either Apple Pay or Google Pay, making it even easier for them to buy your beautiful things!
FAQ FOR FOLKSY SELLERS
What are Apple Pay and Google Pay?
Both products offer customers the ability to make instant transactions on mobile devices directly from the item page. They offer a modern and secure, mobile payment method, allowing a customer to make a purchase without entering their card details.
I can’t see the Apple Pay and Google Pay options on the product page. Should they appear on every product on Folksy?
The Apple Pay and Google Pay options will only show on products if:
- the user has set up quick pay on their device (eg if they have already set up Apple Pay on their iPhone) and is using a supported browser
- the seller has enabled Stripe (see below)
If you are viewing from a PC/ laptop or a phone that isn’t set up with Apple Pay or Google Pay you won’t see the button.

Do I have to do anything to enable one-click checkout for my shop?
Folksy sellers need to have the Stripe payment system enabled in their shop for the one-click option to appear on their items. If your shop is already connected to Stripe, you don’t need to do anything – you’re good to go!
Will the one-click checkout option appear on all my items?
At the moment, it will only appear for items without variations (and where the shop is connected to Stripe). There is more work still to do to get the variations layout to meet the requirements for one-click checkout, and this will form part of a bigger task to improve how our variations feature works.

Can you tell me more about Stripe?
Stripe is a payment service provider, audited by an independent PCI Qualified Security Assessor (QSA). It is certified as PCI Level 1. This is the most stringent level of certification available in the payments industry.
Like Paypal, Stripe charges Folksy sellers a fixed fee and a percentage of the transaction for processing the payment. See the current fees here https://stripe.com/gb/pricing.
It’s worth noting that when a sale goes through Stripe, it will automatically also take off Folksy’s commission. This simply means you pay our commission at the point of sale rather than being billed monthly. The commission you pay to Folksy is the same as through Paypal, although Stripe’s own fees are typically lower than Paypal’s.
When setting up a Stripe account, you may may be asked to verify your identity using more formal documentation such as a passport or a driving licence. This is in order to comply with the regulatory authority. These legal regulations are set up to help prevent fraud and protect both buyers and sellers.
