Meet the Maker behind Zoe’s Blooms
This May, as part of the Folksy Wedding Fair, we’re celebrating the talented makers whose work helps turn wedding dreams into something beautifully real. From meaningful keepsakes to handcrafted decorations and statement accessories, these makers put love into every detail.
Our Maker of the Month is the wonderful Zoe of Zoe’s Blooms, a florist with a passion for dried and faux flowers who turned her wedding hobby into a full-time business. Working from her flower-filled conservatory studio (with the help of her two cats!), Zoe creates bespoke floral arrangements that bring joy, character, and heart to every wedding she’s part of. We chatted to Zoe about growing her business, what inspires her, and the incredibly touching moments that make being a wedding florist so special.
- Please introduce your brand and tell us about yourself.
Hi, I’m Zoe and I’m a full-time florist behind Zoe’s Blooms. I specialise in weddings, working with dried and faux flowers. I’ve been running my small business for the last 7 years. I had a day job and worked with flowers on the side, but I got too busy, so I had to give the day job up and now I’m full-time flowers! I worked in retail for over 20 years, but I can happily say I’m glad to of left it behind. I just love being my own boss, I feel I was always destined to run my own business! Flowers seem to take up a lot of my time, when I’m not working or spending time with my family, I’m in the garden planting seeds or flowers! I just love it.
- What was the first item you made which sparked your business inside you?
I’ve always had a love of flowers and have always been creative. I think I’ve dabbled in most crafts, but my business only started after I created my own flower arrangements for my wedding and have since fallen in love with creating beautiful things! I posted my creations on a Facebook wedding page to show fellow brides, and I was inundated with brides asking if I could make their own flowers and Zoe’s Blooms began.
- How do you feel your work has evolved since you started?
I feel my work has evolved massively since I started. I started working with foam flowers that were popular at the time but looking back now, they aren’t very realistic. Now I’ll only work with high quality faux and dried flowers.
- What inspires you or influences your work?
In my work as a florist, I’m constantly inspired by nature and the way each season and the colours bring something new to work with, but more than anything, it’s the people and the stories behind each order that really inspire me.
- Where do you work?
I work from home in my conservatory which I have taken over and is now my workshop. I need quite a big space as I have so many flowers so it’s an ideal space for me. I just love working from home with my two sidekicks, Meer and Minnie my two cats are always joining me in the workshop.
- What are your preferred materials to work with and why?
I especially love to work with dried flowers, they have undergone a remarkable transformation over the years and are an excellent alternative to fresh flowers. Each flower has their own texture and character, and they age so beautifully. Dried flowers offer that rustic, natural look to a wedding which I love. They are simply beautiful.
- What’s the best part about working with brides?
Being involved with a brides most important day of her life is such an honour and it is by far the most rewarding aspect of being a florist. They say the flowers are the second most important thing after the brides wedding dress, so they play such an important role in their special day. My job touches people’s lives and I get to create something personal and lasting for such a special day, and I love helping their ideas and style come to life.
8. How do you envisage your business expanding and do you have plans for new work?
I’m really excited about the future of my business. I’m focused on growing in a way that keeps my work personal and meaningful. I’m planning to explore collaborations with local makers and small shops to stock my home decor items and to reach more people who appreciate handcrafted decor. I am also hoping to host seasonal workshops, to share my passion with the local community. I have so many ideas but it’s having the time to put them into action!
9. What is your favourite part of your business?
Every day being a florist is different, no 2 days are the same. You never know what might pop into my inbox! I just love receiving custom requests and getting to design something unique, it’s a chance to channel my creativity and a way of creating something meaningful for people. Every wedding order I receive is different to the next and I absolutely love that. Its hands down the prettiest career ever.
- It must feel so special to be involved in someone’s wedding- do you have any beautiful stories?
Absolutely! It’s the most rewarding part of the job. Every wedding is unique but there are definitely moments that stick with me. One special story I can remember was when I worked with a bride a couple of years ago, I was asked to incorporate some dried lavender that her grandmother had grown in her garden that the bride had kept, so I used these to place in her bouquet, it was very subtle but every time the bride caught the scent, it was like her grandmother was there and could be a part of her special day.
