Folksy Local – what is it and how can you join in?

Introducing Folksy Local

We’re really proud and excited to launch Folksy Local – a new way to connect with other makers on Folksy. The idea behind Folksy Local is to help Folksy shop owners based in the same region find each other, grow their local networks, ask questions (and find answers) and hopefully meet up and host in-person events too – whether that’s through local craft fairs, workshops talks or just tea-and-cake catch-ups.

Each team is run by two or three co-captains, supported by us. See who your team leaders are below, and if you would like to volunteer your skills, take on a particular role or become a captain, let the team know what you can offer.

As Folksy Local is just getting going, we’re not yet sure exactly what direction it will take or how it will evolve. It’s all a bit of an experiment, so if you have any brilliant ideas, please share them with your team captains. Each Folksy Local team’s activities will be slightly different, as they will be directed by what the group and the captains want to do – these are your groups, not ours, so you decide what you’d like to do and achieve!

We ask that when you join a team, you become a positive member of that community and always treat your fellow team members with respect and consideration. We are especially grateful to the Folksy Local team leaders, who are giving their time for free, and hope all team members remain mindful of that too.

There will also be Facebook pages for the Folksy Local teams, and some will even have their own Instagram accounts too, so look out for those (we’ll add them here when they’re live).

To join your Folksy Local Group

• Scroll down to find your area
• Join their Facebook Group
• Introduce yourself in the Facebook Group, share your ideas in the Facebook Group and ask how you can get involved
• When your Folksy Local Team has its own Facebook page, follow it and like their posts
• If your Folksy Local Team has an Instagram account, follow it and like their posts
• Apply for your Folksy Local Christmas Market (if you want to!), which will be curated by the team captains.

Tip: To show up in our Shop Local section, add your location to your Folksy shop in your Seller Dashboard. You’ll find Shop Location under ‘Shop Settings’.
