A large chunk of our summer has involved building a new service to manage images on Folksy more effectively (it won’t change them – it will just manage how they are saved and stored and cached). This will mean you will soon be able to list items far more quickly and it will also mean that Folksy is more performative generally. Doug is going to write about the new service in the next few weeks.
As we approach the final stages of the new image service we want to test it with live data. The first of these tests will take place on Thursday 9th August with follow up tests occurring the week of the 13th August. To facilitate this the site will be in maintenance for a short period in the morning of the 9th and also later in the day. We will be doing this at quiet times to minimise disruption. Doug has more information on the Status Blog.

Out of curiosity, will the new service preserve the image names we give them once uploaded or will they be renamed as they are on some other sites? Obviously my preference is that the names be preserved for image sec purposes.
SEO not sec … stoopid auto correct:)
Hurray! Faster listing will be great, hoping we’ll be able to drag’n’drop the order of pics too?
Hi, you’ll be able to re-order them easily, yes, but that piece if work won’t come with this initial release – it will come a little after it.
Great news. Looking forward to it!
